About Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Film Studies (P303)

The BA (Hons) Film Studies degree will help students view film from a different perspective. They'll study film history, understanding its broad social and cultural contexts to develop skills in critical analysis. Students will also learn about camera techniques and editing processes to shape their understanding of the medium.

The film and media industries are not just about production and post-production, but also roles in scriptwriting, marketing, distribution, historical research and archival work, education, organizing live events, and studying audiences and identifying target markets for forthcoming media releases. This undergraduate degree prepares learners for these career opportunities, as well as further study.

The Greenwich Campus is a popular location for film crews and has featured in Hollywood blockbusters such as Pirates of the Caribbean: on Stranger Tides.

This course can be taken in sandwich mode, which means students can take a year to work in industry between their second and final years of study. Sandwich placements are relevant to their degree subject and are paid roles. Students are encouraged to take up Summer internships during the Summer holidays, though it is up to the student to find them.

Graduates from the BA (Hons) Film Studies degree have gone on to work in film and TV development, production and post-production, media marketing and advertising, in communication roles in industry, and for film festivals. Besides, there are a range of postgraduate options.
