About Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Computing (Information Systems)
The Computing (Information Systems), BSc Hons course examines in depth how computer systems are designed and developed. Students will have the opportunity to use different hardware and software and gain a variety of useful skills for their future career.
A pathway in information systems helps learners understand how systems development can transform data into useful outputs for an interface or for decision-making in large organizations. It is designed with industry support to meet the needs of employers. Students will emerge with the skills they need for a broad range of jobs in computing, data analysis, business analysis, web design, systems development and programming.
The Computing team are all experts in their fields, leading the design and delivery of the innovative modules they teach. Lecturers include senior academics, technical officers, and practitioners with industry experience. Many are active researchers in the areas they teach in, as well as holding a postgraduate teaching qualification.
The University of Greenwich has a long-standing relationship with the British Computer Society (BCS), which accredits the computing degree programmes.
Students can also opt for a sandwich mode, which means they can take a year to work in industry between their second and final years of study. Sandwich placements are relevant to their degree subject and are paid roles. Former students have secured placement years at Kent Connects, Oracle and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. In addition to this, learners are also encouraged to take up summer internships, though it is up to them to find those. Support is available to students from the Employability and Careers Service when applying for placements and internships.
The Computing (Information Systems), BSc Hons graduates can pursue careers in areas such as IT support, consultancy, internet and e-commerce applications. They can also expect to work as independent consultants or in teams with other computer professionals to build and support modern computing systems.
