About Bachelor of Laws (Honours) - Law
Bachelor of Laws LLB (Hons) offers a unique approach to teaching and learning, adopting a flipped classroom model which increases flexibility by providing a permanent online resource to support students and encourage their learning journey. By studying at Hertfordshire, students will be able to develop skills such as legal drafting (contractual clauses, defence statements), and advocacy (interim and junction applications) alongside developing their knowledge in the foundations of law.
In order to enhance the student experience, the programme includes a diverse approach to assessment which incorporates a wide range of coursework and practical elements alongside traditional exams. These techniques mean that 73% of students secure a good honours degree!
This law degree is also significantly enhanced by expert research-informed and practitioner-led teaching to ensure they are academically supported. Students will also be part of a community which offers significant pastoral and careers support along the way, thanks to the dedicated student support tutors, cohort tutors and programme leaders, student mentors and careers tutors.
Students will study in the University's fantastic Law Building, practice their skills in the replica Crown Court and solve real problems for the local community in the very own pro-bono law clinic. Moreover, students can get stuck into a range of co-curricular activities and they'll also future proof their degree with skills and qualifications in areas like mooting, trial advocacy and client interviewing. As well as exploring the fundamentals of law, students will explore contemporary issues as diverse as data protection, human rights, terrorism and cybercrime.
Like some real-life experience? Between the second and third year, students have the chance to go on a legal work placement for up to a year and build their experience. It’s a great opportunity and a huge boost to their CV. Even better, the University is only 25 minutes by train from central London, putting some of the UK’s most exciting law firms right on their doorstep. Rather spend the year studying abroad? No problem. With partner institutions all over the world, students can make memories, develop skills and discover incredible new perspectives.
