About Academic Accelerator - Bachelor of Science - Disability and Human Development

Program Description

Academic Accelerator Program (AAP) is a balanced first-year program for international students with good English-language skills. It supplements immersive classes taught in English with just the right amount of support.

As a student in the Academic Accelerator, you’ll receive:

  • The right amount of support for your academic and English-speaking needs
  • A full year’s worth of college credits
  • Access to courses exclusively for international students
  • English-language help with words you need to know for your classes
  • A mix of classes with international and U.S. students

The UIC Bachelor’s of Science in Disability and Human Development studies development across the lifespan and offers an interdisciplinary look at not just disability, but also the unique needs of people with disabilities.

Building upon the department’s strong background in research, teaching, and community engagement, students will receive:

  • A degree that blends theory, research, and practice
  • A curriculum that explores disability as a contextual and changing phenomena, and a complex biological, social, cultural, political, historical, and economic experience
  • Mentorship from experts at the forefront of disability research, advocacy, and culture at the national and international level
  • Applied learning experiences with our innovative research centers and programs and extensive network of community partners

Graduates with bachelor’s in DHD will meet the increasing demand for skilled employees able to foster the fuller inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of cultural, social, economic and political life. They will offer comprehensive knowledge of the factors that influence and shape the lives of people with disabilities. They will be positioned to pursue careers at national, state, and local government levels, as well as with non-profit organizations.
