About Extended Accelerator - Bachelor of Science - Biomedical Engineering

Program Description

Extended Accelerator Program (EAP) combines language, culture and academics to give students a deep understanding of life in and out of the American classroom and includes personalized English-language instruction and tutoring.

As a student in the Extended Accelerator, you’ll get:

  • A contextual curriculum that mixes language, culture and academics
  • Exclusive access to a course focusing on life in the U.S. and in the local community
  • A full year’s worth of college credits
  • Extensive English-language tutoring, academic advising and student support
  • Personalized English-language support specific to the classes you take

A biomedical engineering major prepares students to work in the unique intersection where living systems and nonliving systems come together.

The natural world is an amazing, highly complex place that the biomedical engineering major will help students to understand. Perhaps equally amazing is the universe of approaches that human beings have identified—and are continuing to develop—to make our quality of life even better.

Studying biomedical engineering as an undergraduate at UIC will help students apply quantitative analysis and design to living systems and hybrid systems (which contain some living components). Many paths become open to graduates of the biomedical engineering program. Students may want to become a bioengineer, design smart replacements for tissue or bone, develop new tools for non-invasive medical imaging or diagnostics, or shape molecules into revolutionary new drug therapies. Or graduates may want to move on to medical school, dental school, graduate work in pharmacy, or law school with a focus on patent law. No matter what path students decide to take after graduation, the UIC biomedical engineering major will offer them solid preparation.
