About Bachelor of Science - Physics
The Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Physics is designed for students who intend to enter the job market within a technical and/or physics-related field upon graduation or as a pre-professional degree for those intending to continue on to a graduate program in Physics, Astronomy, or a related field. The emphasis is on providing the student with a strong, competitive foundation in the math, science, and technical skills required to step into a position demanding applied physics and extensive problem-solving skills or to move to the next level and contribute professionally to independent research and development within the field. Whether the degree ends with the achievement of a BA or BS or serves as a stepping stone to additional study, these programs offer an excellent undergraduate education, training some of the finest problem solvers and analysts of the future! All of University of Kansas undergraduate BS majors and the majority of BA students are involved in research projects during their years here. Many earn summer scholarship support from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, through research grants to faculty supervising their projects, or through admission to one of the many summer REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) sponsored by the National Science Foundation.
