As such, the programme is built on a combination of key elements of the school’s Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design programmes. The result is a truly modern engineering degree that will provide individuals with a solid technical grounding in engineering and a specialization in design engineering and in product development, preparing students for a successful career in industry.

The programme is largely project-based. Students will work on several design engineering projects of increasing complexity. In years one and two, students will study core engineering subjects such as solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, materials, as well as electronics and computer programming. The understanding of the fundamental knowledge of engineering science in these subjects underpins the practice of product design engineering.
