About Bachelor of Science - Forest Ecology and Management

In the forest ecology and management major, Students will learn how to use scientific reasoning and data to make decisions about managing crucial natural resources such as forests and the wildlife populations that live in them. 

During the first year, students will take general math and sciences courses as well as an introductory course to natural resource management that covers topics such as conservation biology and environmental ethics and economics as well as a focus on the Truckee River watershed and Great Basin ecosystem.

As students progress through the major, they will continue to study the basic science underlying conservation as well as take specific courses in the major that may include topics such as forest ecology, water resource management, forest plants and wildfires. Courses incorporate regular field trips to local areas of interest so students can learn to apply their knowledge in a practical setting.
