About Bachelor of Arts - English
Program Description
The study of English is about the appreciation of language at work. English students explore the impact and possibilities of words as they form into narratives and speak through characters to wider cultural communities at home and across the globe.
English offers creative inspiration and critical thinking skills while empowering students to become highly literate in a society that values communication.
A student's analytical and communication skills is developed; studying literature will refine a student's reading, writing, and critical thinking skills, as well as cultivate their love of literature. Through in-class discussions and seminar presentations, students will build strategies for public speaking.
As an effective communicator, students will excel in any professional environment and bring a wealth of verbal, analytical, and written strengths to every team dynamic.
UNB encourages thinking and doing. If students are looking for a creative outlet, try a Creative Minor in one of these three areas: film/video, creative writing, and theatre.
Hands-on learning
- Internship: use the knowledge to shape the community by applying for an unpaid, for-credit internship. Students will work directly with local organizations and non-profits, including the Charlotte Street Arts Centre and the New Brunswick Film Co-op.

- Study English literature abroad through UNB’s Exchange program

- Ability to read, write, and speak effectively and persuasively to diverse audiences, and to use rhetorical techniques for persuasion
