About Bachelor of Arts - Information and Communication Studies (Optional Co-op)

Program Description

Information and Communication Studies (ICS) is online, interactive, and connected. Society is in the midst of a fundamental shift in how people communicate with each other, access information, and view popular culture.

As an ICS student on the Saint John campus, students will cast a critical eye on the impact of new technologies and processes on the social, political, economic, and cultural landscapes.

Topics include the decline of newspapers, radio, and television; the rise of Twitter, Facebook, and other social media; the impact of mobile computing; and the eternal question of ‘do people control devices or do the devices determine who people are?’

Unlike many similar programs, which focus on one discipline’s perspective, the program is multidisciplinary. This means students will learn about complex topics from multiple fields of study and perspectives, including Sociology, Psychology, and History.

Small classes led by accomplished academics and media practitioners will provide students with a unique amount of attention, encouragement, and mentorship.
