About Bachelor of Science - Electrical and Computer Engineering - Cybersecurity

Electrical engineering and computer engineering have much in common. Computer engineering grew out of electrical engineering and is, in fact, a sub-discipline of it. The two disciplines share many fundamentals, including computer programming, electronic circuits, digital design, and robotics.

Apart from each other, they stand proudly on their own. Electrical engineers are experts in the transmission, conversion, and generation of electric energy and in communication and signal processing. Computer engineers are known as the hardware warriors —they design and build computers and components and bring computer science into the mix by developing and integrating the software that that makes them work.

Bring the two disciplines together and it unites the power behind the “brains,” opening up myriad ways in which to make the world a safer, healthier, cleaner, more efficient place in which to live. A whole new set of career opportunities opens up as well. It’s one degree with unlimited possibilities.

The Bachelor of Science - Electrical and Computer Engineering major at the University of New Haven, Students will study the behavior of electrons in three areas — electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism — as they learn to design, develop, and oversee the operation of electrical and electronic systems.

Students will:
  • Learn to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems,
  • Design and conduct experiments, then analyze and interpret data,
  • Work hands-on in fully equipped, state-of-the-art laboratories,
  • Master modern techniques, skills, and engineering tools,
  • Explore the impact of engineering within global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts,
  • Design systems, components, and processes to meet specific needs and comply with realistic economic, environmental, social, ethical, and political restraints,
  • Develop an understanding of society, cultural heritage, and the human condition as it relates to advances in engineering,
  • Take coursework in a multidisciplinary curriculum that includes physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer programming, and engineering science,
  • Gain real-world experience through an internship program that often leads to full-time employment after graduation,
  • Have the opportunity to double major in computer engineering or computer science with just one year of additional study,
  • Learn from a faculty whose specializations span the most important areas of electrical engineering.
