About Bachelor of Science - Marine Biology

For students who major in students major in marine biology at the University of New Haven, they are surrounded by diverse marine ecosystems teeming with life and just waiting to be explored. Starting with their first semester, they will be on and in the water, exploring and learning.

Students will have the opportunity to take advantage of the University of New Haven's close relationships with local aquariums, museums, nonprofit organizations, and federal and state research laboratories, and they will benefit from faculty-mentored research opportunities.

Students will learn about their world's oceans, marine environments and organisms, and how humans interact with these systems in this broad, comprehensive program by:

  • Integrating diverse courses as students gain hands-on and research-focused experience
  • Studying invertebrate and vertebrate marine animals, marine botany, oceanography, and marine ecology
  • Personalizing their course of study to meet their career goals
  • Exploring career opportunities within the large and diverse field of marine science
  • Complementing their coursework with internships, summer research opportunities, or a yearlong senior research project
  • Broadening their horizons as they experience other habitats and cultures through study abroad and study away opportunities. (Students travel to Australia, South Africa, Hawaii, Alaska, and the Geraci Research Centre on San Salvador Island in the Bahamas.)
