Student work follows four modules. The first involves a series of seminars that cover key areas in typography, and build a foundation in critical reading and research methods. These seminars are shared with other master’s students, and include reading and discussion of key texts, and preparation of a presentation to peers.
The second module includes a series of essays on topics students select with the support of staff, aiming to cover working with both primary and secondary sources. They work on these independently, with individual feedback by relevant staff.
The third module involves the preparation of a PhD proposal, as an exercise in identifying research questions and critical writing skills. The fourth module comprises preparation and work for a substantial dissertation.
