About 3.5-Term Pathway - Undergraduate Foundation Program - Humanities and Social Sciences - Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Ancient History and Archaeology

At ONCAMPUS Reading, international students who have completed secondary education can prepare for university study. The program guarantees progression to various undergraduate degrees at the University of Reading. It aims to facilitate entry into undergraduate programs for these students. Upon successful completion of the University Foundation Program, students who meet the required academic and English language proficiency will automatically advance to an undergraduate program at the University of Reading. The University Foundation Program is equivalent to NQF level 3, which is comparable to United Kingdom A level standard.

Most programs span an academic year, divided into three terms. Each term consists of seven to eight teaching weeks and one examination week. Students typically engage in 21 to 25 hours of classroom study per week.

The University of Reading offers a BA Ancient History and Archaeology degree. It ranks among the top 100 in the world for Archaeology (QS World Rankings by Subject, 2024, Archaeology, ranked 51-100). Additionally, the university is recognized for its environmental and ethical performance, ranking first in the United Kingdom (People and Planet University League 2023/24).

In 2023, the University of Reading became the first recipient of the Times Higher Education (THE) award for Outstanding Contribution to Environmental Leadership. It is also ranked first in the UK for research quality and outputs in Archaeology (Times Higher Education Institutions Ranked by Subject, based on REF 2021 analysis). Moreover, 100% of the university’s research in History meets international standards (Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021)).

The university’s Department of Archaeology is ranked among the top three in the UK for teaching quality (The Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024). Its research findings are incorporated into teaching, and 97% of students report that teaching staff effectively explain concepts (National Student Survey 2024, 97.06% of responders from the Department of Archaeology).

Within 15 months of graduating, 97% of Archaeology graduates are employed or engaged in further education (based on analysis of HESA data © HESA 2023, Graduate Outcomes Survey 2020/21; includes all Archaeology responders).
