About Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Psychology

On this course, students will study the real-life applications of psychology and develop advanced psychological knowledge and professional skills for their career.

Students will learn core and contemporary subjects within psychology and have the opportunity to shape their degree around their own interests and ambitions. Topics include mental health, developmental psychology, positive psychology and wellbeing, and social psychology. Students will also study contemporary social movements and global crises, currently including Black Lives Matter, climate change, and #MeToo, through a psychological lens.

The University of Roehampton’s BSc Psychology is designed with students' career in mind. From the first year, students will learn about the varied and fascinating careers where their degree will be valued and discover how to apply their psychological knowledge to a range of different fields. Students will also take a credited work experience module in year two to build on their CV before graduating.

In joining Psychology at the University of Roehampton, students will have the opportunity to become a Mental Health England First-Aider, or train and develop skills in mental health first aid, further expanding their professional development.

This course also has the option of a one year paid work placement, to boost students' employability even further.

Students will be learning from enthusiastic and supportive academic tutors, who are also practitioners and involved in the latest research. They’ll teach students in the University of Roehampton's state-of-the-art psychological facilities, giving students first-hand experience using the latest equipment, including the EEGs to record brain activity, eye-tracking software, access to an fMRI, and brain stimulation therapy, including Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).

Teaching consists of a mixture of lectures and small group seminars. At least 50% of teaching will be in seminars, lab classes or workshops, giving students tailored teaching and contact time with their lecturers. Authentic assessments will give students the practical experience of applying psychology to the workplace and allow them to develop expert skills in data analysis, psychological research, and intervention reports.

At the University of Roehampton, after year one, students will have the flexibility to move onto other undergraduate psychology degree programmes related to specific career trajectories: BSc Psychology and Education, BSc Psychology and Counselling, and BSc Psychology and Criminology.

The University of Roehampton’s BSc Psychology has been accredited and commended by the British Psychological Society (BPS) for many years. This recently reviewed and enhanced programme is pending BPS re-accreditation, following the 5 year curriculum review due for early spring. The programme that students will study has been designed to meet the BPS criteria.

This course has a timetable designed to fit around their commitments, and the University of Roehampton has plenty of support for commuting students, including free on-campus car parking, excellent transport links and a free bus service. The University of Roehampton also offers all new students guaranteed on-campus accommodation.

The University of Roehampton is ranked as the best modern university in London (Times Good University Guide 2022 and Complete University Guide 2022).

This course offers all students the option of a one-year paid work placement, to boost their employability even further. If students choose this route, they will take the placement following year two of their course, and then return to complete their degree.
