Upon successful completion of the course, graduates can enter one of the University of Tasmania’s undergraduate degree courses.
Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours (M4C):
An Honours degree in Pharmacy enhances career opportunities and is the usual prerequisite for further study for a research higher degree (Master of Pharmacy or Doctor of Philosophy). Research Higher Degrees are generally expected for positions in the pharmaceutical industry, academia or government regulatory agencies.
Graduate Honours consists of a planning and conducting a research project under the supervision of academic staff at the Division of Pharmacy, School of Medicine. Students identify a suitable project and conduct a review of the scientific literature to provide a rationale for their project, develop a research plan with their supervisors, conduct the project and prepare a research thesis. Students participate in research skills tutorials and present regularly to their peers and academic staff as a part of the course.
The Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours program aims to provide experience and training in research in pharmacy practice, pharmaceutical science or pharmacology. This overall objective is served by the following goals:
- to extend knowledge and understanding in specific topics of interest in pharmacy and related sciences,
- to improve skills in critically reading the literature and communicating effectively in science,
- to learn particular research methods and techniques,
- to develop the ability to plan and carry out a research project, and to prepare a thesis on the results.
