About Academic Accelerator - Bachelor of Science - Peace and Conflict Studies

Program Description

The Academic Accelerator Program (AAP) is a balanced first-year program for international students with good English-language skills. It supplements immersive classes taught in English with just the right amount of support.

Students in the Academic Accelerator receive:

  • The right amount of support for their academic and English-speaking needs
  • A full year’s worth of college credits
  • Access to courses exclusively for international students
  • English-language help with words they need to know for their classes
  • A mix of classes with international and U.S. students

Conflict exists both within people and in their interpersonal relations: with friends, families, or the community, locally and globally. If students want to be able to recognize and peacefully resolve conflict, they can consider the Peace & Conflict Studies program at the University of Utah. Offered collaboratively by the College of Humanities, Department of Communication, and College of Social and Behavioral Science, Peace & Conflict Studies will give students the knowledge, skills, and values they need to be a peacemaker in the world. Students in this program choose one of three themes for their studies: Conflict Resolution, Social Justice, or Global Perspectives. Regardless of emphasis area, students take courses in topics like negotiation, poverty and inequality, international affairs and human rights, world religions and politics, and the economics of race and gender. The culminating experiences of the program include a capstone course, seminar, and required internship. Through the studies, students will develop their communication, social awareness, and critical thinking skills, enabling them to pursue careers in a number of fields.
