About Bachelor of Arts - Honours Arts - Legal Studies

Program Description

Students who have a wide variety of interests, Honours Arts gives them the freedom to explore it.

In the University of Waterloo's largest and most flexible first-year program, students will use their first two terms to test the waters. Sample courses from the humanities, social sciences, fine and performing arts, and languages and cultures. Students can discover subjects they weren’t exposed to in high school, or delve deeper into their favourite subject at the university level.

Honours Arts will give students the critical thinking skills to analyze issues, make persuasive arguments, write well, and speak with conviction — skills that will serve them well along any career path.

Law touches virtually every aspect of society. That makes a degree in Legal Studies great preparation for a career in government, business, the non-profit sector, law enforcement, and (of course!) law itself.

At the University of Waterloo, students will enjoy small classes led by highly respected researchers, giving them lots of opportunity for discussion, and students will also have the opportunity to gain work experience through co-op.

Students will explore the impact of law on society, the origins of legal systems, how the Charter of Rights and Freedoms creates change, and issues such as crime, deviance, punishment, and restorative justice.

Students will graduate with skills in research, problem solving, critical thinking, and communication, along with an in-depth understanding of law and legal systems.
