About Bachelor of Arts - Cultural Studies with Management Option (UMB)

Cultural Studies takes a close look at popular and everyday culture. Cultural Studies analyzes art and literature, science and technology, media and popular texts in relation to the meaning of everyday life and how they helped shape history. The courses introduce students a new ways of “reading” culture that embrace the world’s complexity. They will explore topics such as popular music, visual culture, the culture of work and play, youth subculture and popular culture’s role in social change.

Upon graduation, students will think critically about all aspects of culture as they relate to larger issues in society, including class, gender, sexuality, race and power. They will develop critical insights into the world we live in by examining how humans live and engage in culture around them.

Cultural competency is a skill employers look for. Students will gain the ability to effectively and critically engage with contemporary issues and clearly communicate their understandings to others. This will prepare students for diverse careers requiring them to implement solutions for contemporary challenges.

NOTE: This program must be completed in combination with another Bachelor of Arts program. Students can easily pair their studies with Communication Studies, English, Film Studies, Women and Gender Studies or Global Studies, among others.
