About Bachelor of Arts - History
As a history student at Albion College, students will examine many cultures and time periods while maintaining the freedom to choose what interests them most. These courses take students around the world—Europe, Latin America, East Asia, Africa and the United States—as well as through the centuries—from 3000 BCE to the 21st century.
As part of the curriculum, students will do things like examine ancient Greek and Roman military maneuvers. Discover historical photography with museum-grade vintage cameras from 1950s Germany and Japan. Learn about the American Revolution through role-playing games. Internships, research at leading museums and archives and off-campus experiences allow them to apply their classroom-acquired knowledge to the real world.
Students will learn:
- They will build a broad knowledge base, taking courses in American, European and Asian or Latin American History, as well as a number of special topics. They might look at global conflicts from multiple perspectives or study concepts of race and gender throughout history.
- They will develop highly translatable skills, like the ability to see an issue from multiple perspectives. They will practice challenging conventional wisdom and communicating ideas effectively through writing and speaking.
- They will tailor their curriculum to their interests and goals. They might pursue advanced coursework in a specific region, complete thesis work, or even find courses in other departments—like foreign languages—that complement their history studies.
