About Bachelor of Arts - Theatre

The theatre experience at Albion College closely links the classroom to the stage. Students will pair coursework in theory, history and technical fundamentals with hands-on experience, where they will put what they have learned into practice.

Albion College’s Department of Theatre functions like a real-world repertory company, typically staging four productions per year. Each season features a broad range of works, from classical to contemporary, award winners to up-and-coming voices.

Students will be taught by faculty members who have worked extensively in the industry—everything from appearing on 30 Rock and Gossip Girl to costume designing for an Italian opera company.

Students won’t have to specialize in just one aspect of theatre. They will learn how to do it all in core theatre curriculum, and fast-paced season allows opportunities to get involved onstage and backstage.

Learning Outcomes:
  • In the courses, students will learn the fundamentals of every aspect of theatre: acting, directing, design and stagecraft.
  • Students will study theory, learning how to read a play and analyze dramatic text. They will explore theatrical works spanning millennia, from ancient Greece to the Elizabethan era to today.
  • As a theatre major, students are a member of the company. In four annual shows, they will join the cast, design team, stage management, run crew, costume or set construction teams, paint crew, or ushering staff.
  • As a senior, students will complete a capstone project consisting of a major contribution to one of the productions in their chosen area.
