About Pre-Engineering
The Dual Degree Program in Engineering (DDPE) at Albion College offers the best of both worlds: a liberal arts foundation and a rigorous engineering education. Students will spend three years at the college developing a strong background in science and mathematics, as well as critical thinking and communication skills.
Then, students will transfer to an engineering school, typically a larger research university, where they will complete an additional two years of advanced engineering study.
Students will graduate with two degrees: a bachelor of arts degree from Albion College in their chosen major—typically mathematics, physics or chemistry—and a bachelor of science in engineering from their transfer school.
Students will build their scientific and technical knowledge base with the program's core coursework in mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science. They will prepare for more advanced studies by choosing additional track-specific coursework in general engineering, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, computer/electrical engineering, environmental/geo-engineering or industrial/financial engineering.
The liberal arts curriculum will broaden students' perspectives and develop skills like written and oral communication, creative and analytical thinking, and cross-cultural understanding—all of which will set them apart as an engineer beginning their career.
