Master of Arts in Teaching - Teaching - Elementary Education (K-5)

As a student in the College of Education, students will feel and experience the collaborative and supportive learning environment as they work with their peers and faculty to fulfill their dream of becoming a teacher.

The program is for those who hold a bachelor’s degree, do not currently hold a professional teaching license, but wish to become a teacher. The M.A.T. K-5 program allows students to complete initial licensure requirements and earn their master’s degree in as few as 15 months. Extensive classroom practical

application is also a critical part of their training as a teacher. Students will have the opportunity to observe experienced educators, to work with primary aged children in a variety of school settings, and to take the lead as the classroom teacher during their final semesters. The Martha Dickerson Eriksson College of Education has an enduring reputation of producing some of the very best teachers in the state, with area administrators seeking its graduates. In the M.A.T. K-5 program, students will learn all the important skills, pedagogical knowledge, and dispositional requirements for teaching K-5 students in a 21st century classroom.

All classes are taught by dynamic and experienced faculty of the College of Education who have experience in public schools at all grade levels and in all subject areas and have all worked extensively in teacher education and leadership.
