Program Description
The Fashion Design program offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design as well as a minor in Fashion Design.
The curriculum is strongly anchored in arts and fashion foundations and allows students to focus on apparel and product design within the frame of industry simulations and projects. Courses cover apparel construction, patternmaking, draping, the design process, drawing, illustrating and preparing other visual materials needed for visual communication in the industry and culminates in a senior fashion collection. An internship in the industry is required for graduation.
A dedicated fashion lab with machines and equipment vital to each students’ success is provided for student use. A new, state of the art computer lab for both Fashion Design and Costume Design students is available with equipment for digitizing, creating and printing patterns as well as 3-D visualization and virtual fitting of garments. Adobe Creative Cloud is available in three different campus computer labs, including a dedicated departmental lab, for student use.
Graduates may pursue careers in apparel and product development, entrepreneurship, manufacturing, apparel construction and alterations, bespoke clothing, patternmaking, sourcing or fashion styling.
