About Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Counselling, Coaching and Mentoring
This course offers insight into three key professional disciplinary approaches to ‘helping’ others. In the current climate, demand for these skills in all sectors is increasing as awareness and attitudes to inclusion and mental health needs across the population change.
Once students have completed their degree, a wealth of career opportunities in everything from HR to social care awaits them. Students may also go on to study further to become an accredited counsellor or train as a therapist.
Supporting other people can be a hugely rewarding process and by working in counselling, coaching or mentoring they may even have the potential to help someone to change their life.
Those who have high emotional intelligence, and are good at understanding and relating to people, this course will help students to become effective and skilled in supporting others with achieving their aims and objectives, while developing themselves.
Throughout the course, students will integrate theory and practice, developing the skills, professional attributes and competences needed to work with others, often in challenging and difficult circumstances. Students will develop their curiosity and critical reasoning abilities, as well as independent study and research skills. Students will also gain a solid grounding in a broad range of helping approaches and techniques, so that students can build effective relationships with clients in settings such as schools, the voluntary sector, human resources, social care and health.
On completion of the course, students may choose to continue their professional development through postgraduate studies and relevant accredited training in related fields such as psychotherapy, careers work, social work, human resources and other talking and creative therapies.
