Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Dance Education

Students can share their knowledge, enthusiasm and love of dance to inspire and make a difference to the lives of others with a career in dance education.

Students will have access to everything they need in the purpose-built studios. The performance studio houses stage lighting, props, surround sound, and audience seating, while the dance studios have sprung floors, mirrors, barres, sound systems and one is fully sound proofed.

This course will build knowledge of the dance landscape, dance teaching, dance science, choreography and performance.

This degree covers practical skills and techniques as well as theoretical aspects of dance, so students can work as a confident dance professional in roles such as a dancer, practitioner, teacher, artist, researcher or entrepreneur. Students will study dance techniques, learn to teach using dance pedagogy and will understand themselves as a dancer and gain knowledge of safe practice when working with others through dance science. Students will learn about the history and social/cultural aspects of different styles and choreographers. Students will also create their own choreography work and manage a range of projects.

The BA Dance Education degree is designed to prepare students for entry into the dance profession as a dancer, practitioner, teacher, artist or entrepreneur. They will develop knowledge, skills and understanding as a technically underpinned, expressive performer, a creative choreographer and artist, a pedagogically principled teacher and practitioner in school-based and community-based settings, and an entrepreneur who is able to manage a professional, freelance career.
