About Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Special Educational Needs and Inclusion Studies
There is a great demand for skilled and capable professionals to support children and young adults with special educational needs, and their families. On this course, the University will help students develop as a sensitive, confident and knowledgeable practitioner, so that they are fully prepared to help those in need of support.
During the foundation year, students will gain an introduction to education and human development and they'll develop the skills needed to study at degree level.
Students will gain a rounded experience by exploring the areas of teaching, social work and health, and gaining the vital skills and understanding students need to enter a multidisciplinary workforce.
As well as gaining a solid academic and theoretical grounding in the subject, students will have the opportunity to develop personally and professionally during an optional practice placement and participate in employment-based activities.
To further cement their understanding of special educational needs and inclusion, students will study theories of management and leadership. This will include learning about professionalism and partnership working, which are essential to effective working practices. The diverse team of professionals will share their expert knowledge and passion for teaching to bring a positive and rewarding learning experience.
The success of the first year of the course is recognised in the External Examiner report which states: “The students have a strong sense of identity and recognise the importance of advocacy for vulnerable, children, adults and families.”
