About Master of Science - Gravitational Wave Physics
The Gravitational Wave Physics MSc program provides students with a comprehensive and extensive education in both theory and experimentation in the field of gravitational wave physics and astronomy. It covers various techniques in laser interferometry for detecting gravitational waves, as well as topics such as general relativity, astrophysics, modeling of gravitational wave sources, and data analysis for detection and interpretation of these sources. The program offers three different streams, allowing students to specialize in gravitational wave observation, data analysis and source modeling, or gain a broad understanding across all these areas. The faculty at Cardiff University are at the forefront of cutting-edge research in these fields, making this program truly unique.
As a student in this program, you will have the opportunity to undertake a three-month summer project focused on one of these research areas. This project will provide valuable hands-on experience and allow you to contribute to the LIGO Scientific Collaboration (LSC), a renowned scientific collaboration dedicated to gravitational-wave research. You will have the chance to work on flagship projects related to gravitational-wave experiments, source modeling, signal searches, and astrophysical interpretation, further enhancing your expertise in the field.
