About Master of Engineering - Electrical and Computer (ELEC)
The Electrical and Computer Engineering program is offered jointly by the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering and the Department of Electronics in the Faculty of Engineering and Design.
Carleton has known expertise in this field, producing highly-qualified graduates to work on projects ranging from high-speed/high-frequency circuitry to optical fiber communications.
Our renowned researchers work in areas such as biomedical engineering, computing, electrical engineering, engineering systems and analysis, interactive multimedia systems, software engineering, speech/signal/image processing and telecommunications.
The Electrical and Computer Engineering program is also offered through the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Electrical and Computer Engineering which allows our students access to the largest program in Canada with resources both at Carleton and the University of Ottawa. Carleton offers a Collaborative Specialization in Data Science, Climate Change and Cybersecurity.
We offer these two master’s programs:
- MASc in Electrical and Computer Engineering, which requires the completion of a research thesis.
- MEng in Electrical and Computer Engineering, which is coursework only.
The Department of Systems and Computer Engineering (SCE) offers a Concentration for the MEng and MASc programs. It focuses on Modeling and Simulation technologies now used in decision-making by academia, industry and government agencies; for training, logistics, supply chain, manufacturing, communications, autonomous vehicles and more. Students will obtain skills in modeling and simulation through coursework, projects and/or thesis.
SCE also offers a Concentration in Software Engineering for the MEng, MASc and PhD programs. It focuses on developing advanced software engineering skills and competencies in cutting-edge research areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Autonomous Systems, Cybersecurity, and more through coursework, projects and/or thesis.
You may also be interested in our MASc in Biomedical Engineering, which has four areas of study: Medical Instrumentation, Biomedical Image Processing, Biomechanics and Biomaterials, Medical Informatics and Telemedicine.
We also offer a PhD program in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
