About Double Degree - Honours Bachelor of Arts - Psychology & Bachelor of Education - Primary/Junior
Lakehead University's Faculty of Education prepares prospective teachers for a dynamic and rewarding career through unique and innovative programming. By emphasizing critical thinking skills and collaborative learning, the university gives students the flexibility to explore the teaching methods, concepts and values that are meaningful to them.
The program emphasizes practical, experiential learning to ensure students are fully prepared to enter into the workforce post-graduation. Lakehead University's programs are continually adapted to encompass a variety of educational settings and training opportunities in two divisions:
- Primary-Junior (P/J): JK – Grade 6
- Intermediate-Senior (I/S): Grades 7-12
The Concurrent Education program allows students to take courses in both the Faculty of Education and the faculty offering their academic major before taking two years exclusively with the Faculty of Education; five-year program.
Psychologists share a desire to make a positive contribution to human welfare through understanding and influencing the thoughts, emotions, and behavior of individuals. They are concerned with what motivates people, what social, physical, and biological factors affect them, and what makes them unique.
Lakehead University's multidisciplinary approach to Psychology provides students with the opportunity to explore these topics and the inner workings of the brain through either an Arts or Science stream, depending on their academic interests. Students will graduate with the objective tools to develop theories, test them through scientific experimentation, and develop new knowledge through comprehensive research methods.
The breadth of study within the Psychology program is what sets Lakehead University apart. Throughout students' undergraduate degree, they will gain at least one credit of exposure to all elements of the disciplines and sub-fields including Biological, Cognitive-Affective, Individual, Social, Abnormal, and Developmental, in addition to their stream electives.
Lakehead University believes flexibility in students' studies equates to flexibility in their career path. The Psychology major can be paired with other majors including Gerontology, Philosophy, Women's Studies, and Education, to explore the intersection of these fields.
Much of Lakehead University's faculty are practicing clinical psychologists with a range of expertise and connections, making it possible to immerse students in research and volunteer opportunities from first year onward.
