10 week Pre-Sessional English

This 10-week course will help students improve their English language by the equivalent of IELTS 1.0 before starting their chosen degree. It is designed for international and EU students who already hold a conditional offer for an undergraduate or postgraduate course.

As part of their course, students will:

• Develop their general language knowledge
• Work on their communication, presentation and seminar skills
• Gain extensive practice in academic reading and writing, and academic speaking and listening
• Develop time management, problem-solving, organisational and planning skills
• Raise intercultural awareness and self-confidence – students willl be able to show greater initiative in all that they do
• Be prepared for successful university study in the UK – by better understanding UK university culture, customs and expectations
• Successful completion of this course will enable students to progress to their chosen undergraduate or postgraduate program.

There will be 20 hours of classroom and learning activities per week. These 20 hours include breaks, which means an actual time of 16.7 hours per week. Classes will be at any time between 9:00 and 18:00 from Monday to Friday. There will be no classes on national holidays.

Students also have one-to-one tutorials with their academic advisor, and they will have access to lots of self-study resources stored in Leeds Beckett University's library. The assessments will include a mix of coursework, which tests the student's reading, writing, speaking and listening; there will be no end-of-course examination.

For students who need to improve their English language by the equivalent of IELTS 0.5, Leeds Beckett University offers a 6-week version of this course.
