The 2-Semester Pathway - Undergraduate Foundation Programme - Humanities and Social Sciences is a one-year programme offers successful students guaranteed progression to Loughborough University. This programme is designed to prepare international students, who have completed senior secondary education, for entry to undergraduate studies at the university.
The International Foundation Programme is set at level 3, which is equivalent to A-level standard in the United Kingdom. The two semester programme lasts one academic year [nine months]. Each semester includes, on average, 13 teaching weeks, one reading week and one assessment week. On average, students will undertake 21 (and up to 25) hours of classroom-based study per week. This programme includes English and three academic subject modules. English will be integrated into the teaching of academic subjects, as well as being taught separately if they need additional support to develop their English language. They will be assessed at regular intervals throughout the programme to ensure they are making the progress required to successfully complete the programme. Full assessment of the programme will take place in the final semester. Assessment methodologies are aligned to those that will be experienced in the University environment, and include project work, essays, and presentations.
Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Politics, Philosophy and Economics:
The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Politics, Philosophy and Economics is a prestigious course offers students the opportunity to explore and analyse complex problems from three key disciplinary perspectives. This course provides the skills required for a range of distinguished careers. It has been designed to allow them the opportunity to shape their own learning. First-year modules provide a solid foundation in each of the core disciplines comprising the degree: Political Science, Philosophy and Economics. Increased optionality is introduced in second and third-year modules providing them the opportunity to specialise in any of these areas of study.
Thoroughly interdisciplinary upper-year modules will encourage students to synthesise the perspectives and methods of these three disciplines in order to arrive at solutions to pressing contemporary problems. A final-year dissertation provides them the opportunity to conduct independent research on a topic of their choice. Distinguished placement opportunities and study-abroad schemes affiliated to this course provide additional opportunities for them to take control of their learning and improve their employability.
