2-Semester Pathway - Undergraduate Foundation Programme - Life Sciences - Continue to Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Sport and Exercise Science

The 2-Semester Pathway - Undergraduate Foundation Programme - Life Sciences is a one-year programme offers successful students guaranteed progression to Loughborough University. This programme is designed to prepare international students, who have completed senior secondary education, for entry to undergraduate studies at the university.

The International Foundation Programme is set at level 3, which is equivalent to A-level standard in the United Kingdom. The two semester programme lasts one academic year [nine months]. Each semester includes, on average, 13 teaching weeks, one reading week and one assessment week. On average, students will undertake 21 (and up to 25) hours of classroom-based study per week. This programme includes English and three academic subject modules. English will be integrated into the teaching of academic subjects, as well as being taught separately if they need additional support to develop their English language. They will be assessed at regular intervals throughout the programme to ensure they are making the progress required to successfully complete the programme. Full assessment of the programme will take place in the final semester. Assessment methodologies are aligned to those that will be experienced in the University environment, and include project work, essays, and presentations.

Sport and exercise scientists are in increasing demand given the drive of professional athletes to maximize their potential and the efforts of health officials to encourage participation in exercise and physical activity. Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of Sport and Exercise Sciences and gain a scientific appreciation of the disciplines that underpin them including: physiology, biochemistry, biomechanics, motor control and psychology. They will benefit from access to state-of-the-art laboratories, which will allow them to develop their practical, scientific and laboratory skills enabling them to apply their knowledge and understanding in the context of sports performance, physical activity, health and wellbeing.
