2-Semester Pathway - Undergraduate Foundation Programme - Life Sciences - Continue to Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Sport Science, Coaching and Physical Education

The 2-Semester Pathway - Undergraduate Foundation Programme - Life Sciences is a one-year programme offers successful students guaranteed progression to Loughborough University. This programme is designed to prepare international students, who have completed senior secondary education, for entry to undergraduate studies at the university.

The International Foundation Programme is set at level 3, which is equivalent to A-level standard in the United Kingdom. The two semester programme lasts one academic year [nine months]. Each semester includes, on average, 13 teaching weeks, one reading week and one assessment week. On average, students will undertake 21 (and up to 25) hours of classroom-based study per week. This programme includes English and three academic subject modules. English will be integrated into the teaching of academic subjects, as well as being taught separately if they need additional support to develop their English language. They will be assessed at regular intervals throughout the programme to ensure they are making the progress required to successfully complete the programme. Full assessment of the programme will take place in the final semester. Assessment methodologies are aligned to those that will be experienced in the University environment, and include project work, essays, and presentations.

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Sport Science, Coaching and Physical Education course will allow students to develop a critical, theoretical and practical understanding of sport, coaching and physical education, as well as knowledge of physiology, physical activity and health, skill acquisition, psychology and sport sociology. They will develop teaching, coaching, academic and scientific skills, and apply their knowledge and understanding to sport, education, health and other contexts in state-of-the-art facilities. The degree is likely to be of particular interest to those wishing to pursue careers in the fields of coaching, education, sport policy, physical activity and health promotion and/or allied professions.
