About Academic Accelerator - Bachelor of Science - Chemistry - Environmental Chemistry

The Academic Accelerator Program (AAP) is a balanced first-year program designed for international students with strong English-language skills. It provides additional support to complement English-taught classes and ensure academic success.

Students enrolled in the Academic Accelerator Program will benefit from:
  • Tailored support for academic and English language needs
  • A full year’s worth of college credits
  • Access to courses specifically for international students
  • Assistance with essential English vocabulary for coursework
  • A diverse mix of classes with both international and U.S. students
The Department of Chemistry offers a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with eight areas of concentration available to majors. It is recommended that chemistry students choose their concentration by their sophomore year, with options including Biological Chemistry, Chemical Physics, and Environmental Chemistry.

These concentrations can be categorized based on whether they prepare students for a career in chemistry or another field such as medicine, dentistry, or education. The environmental chemistry concentration, in particular, is ideal for those pursuing a career in chemistry with a focus on environmental studies or for those planning to pursue graduate studies in chemistry.

This concentration is a collaborative program with Southern University (SUBR), allowing for cross-registration between Louisiana State University and Southern University for select environmental chemistry courses offered in alternate semesters.
