About Academic Accelerator - Bachelor of Science - Nutrition and Food Sciences - Food Science and Technology
The Academic Accelerator Program (AAP) is a balanced first-year program for international students with strong English-language skills. It complements immersive classes taught in English with appropriate support.
Students enrolled in the Academic Accelerator Program will receive:
Adequate support for academic and English-speaking needs
A full year’s worth of college credits
Access to courses specifically for international students
Assistance with English language terms necessary for classes
A mix of classes with both international and U.S. students
The School of Nutrition and Food Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Food Sciences. The undergraduate program curriculum combines the curricula in Nutritional Sciences and Food Science and Technology. Students in this program take core courses that provide fundamental knowledge needed for specialization in one of four concentrations:
Dietetics
Nutritional Sciences/Pre-Medical
Nutrition, Health and Society
Food Science and Technology
Each concentration offers a professional sequence in a specialized area, required supporting courses in basic sciences, and a broad general education. Graduates are prepared for careers in dietetics, medicine, public health, business, education, research, or various aspects of the food industry.
Students in the Food Science and Technology concentration take courses in food chemistry, analysis, microbiology, engineering, and business to learn about research, development, processing, evaluation, packaging, and distribution of foods. They study food properties such as safety, taste, quality, and nutrition extensively. Elective courses allow students to gain practical experience in research or product development, with opportunities for internships with food companies.
Electives related to food safety, applied microbiology, food processing, food chemistry, analysis, and food business and marketing are available for students in the Food Science and Technology concentration. This concentration prepares students for careers in quality control, government regulation, product development, food engineering, and food marketing.
Food science and technology is a rewarding career field that involves all aspects of food production, processing, and marketing. Graduates of the Food Science and Technology concentration are equipped for various roles in the food industry or further studies in graduate or professional programs.
