The Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Ecology and Management offered by the School of Renewable Natural Resources at LSU provides a diverse curriculum with a focus on wetlands, wildlife, conservation biology, fisheries, aquaculture, forestry, habitat management, and law enforcement. Students in this program can also prepare for careers as wildlife-oriented veterinarians. Unlike traditional biology programs, this program emphasizes hands-on learning and incorporates resource policy, regulations, and human aspects of resource research and management. Field experiences in forests, wetlands, and water are integral to the program, with an emphasis on habitats, animal populations and communities, and people management.

Graduates of this program have the opportunity to become certified professional scientists by organizations such as The Wildlife Society, American Fisheries Society, or the Society of Wetland Scientists. They may pursue careers with state or federal wildlife and fisheries agencies, land management agencies, non-governmental organizations, environmental consulting firms, or continue their education in veterinary school or graduate programs.

The B.S. in Natural Resource Ecology and Management at LSU offers unique facilities and resources, including access to the School’s Lee Memorial Forest with dorms and teaching facilities, as well as vans and trucks for off-campus field trips. Students can specialize in areas such as Conservation Biology, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Wildlife Ecology, Wildlife Habitat Conservation and Management, Wetland Science, Ecological Restoration, Forest Enterprise, Forest Resource Management, Pre-Veterinary Medicine, or Wildlife Ecology Concentration.

Students in the Wildlife Ecology Concentration study a wide range of wildlife species, including game and non-game species, and participate in a two-week camp at Lee Memorial Forest. This program prepares students for advanced degrees and careers in the field of natural resource management.
