About Master of Science - Nutrition and Dietetics
Madonna University’s Master of Science (MS) in Nutrition and Dietetics provides a pathway for students to become Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN) working in clinical, community, athletic and corporate settings with diverse groups of clients.
Courses focus on essential topics, such as food behaviors, sustainability, nutrition assessment, medical nutrition therapy, metabolic nutrition, and research. These courses aim to advance knowledge in the leading theories in the nutrition field, ensuring students as experienced practitioners.
Students examine current food trends and consumer motivations, as well as controversial food issues presented by expert faculty. These issues spur debate that in turn drives master’s students to develop innovative solutions to diet-related issues and alternative methods of educating clients.
While being exposed to the cutting-edge curriculum, Nutrition and Dietetics students improve their motivational, problem solving, and communication skills in order to effectively assist clients in meeting their nutritional goals. This process shapes them into well-rounded influential health leaders who demonstrate empathy and compassion for those they serve, reflecting Madonna University’s Franciscan values.
Upon completion of the program students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge of topics related to nutrition, food and health.
- Integrate theory, knowledge and skills to become an effective problem solver of environmental and health issues related to food and nutrition.
- Communicate effectively in writing and through oral presentations on research-based nutrition topics.
- Evaluate current research in food and nutrition.
Career opportunities for master’s graduates who pursue the R.D.N. credential include as clinical dietitian, corporate wellness dietitian, nutritional counselor, diabetes educator, food service manager, director-level roles in governmental programs and sports dietitian.
