Dual Qualification - Grade 12 + College Certificate - Hairstylist - Foundation

Program Description

Students will complete their ITA technical training and graduation program coursework in the first year, and then in the second year they will complete their work place practicum. Students will graduate with a Grade 12 Diploma and usually 1 year of an ITA trades certificate.

Hairstylists are most often employed at salons and spas. Upon completion of the program, students will have the qualifications to acquire positions as a hairstylist:  in a salon, in the movie industry, theatre, mobile salon services, homes for elderly or disabled.  Students will also be able to work in sales and retail positions within the industry. Many are self-employed, either owning their own business or leasing a spot within someone else's salon or spa.

• Effective  communication, human relations, teamwork and ethics as they pertain to the cosmetology industry
• Professional image, healthy living, hygiene, sanitation guidelines and infection control
• Hair structure and behaviour
• Hair loss, scalp and hair conditions
• Draping, shampooing and scalp massage procedures
• Haircutting essentials and fundamentals
• Implement control, blow-drying and thermal styling hair
• Use of various products on the hair for cleansing, conditioning, styling
• Wet styling, waving, roller set, pin curl and comb out
• Design elements and   principals
• Chemical texturizing
• Law of colour and colour application
