Dual Degree - Bachelor of Fine Arts & Bachelor of Education - Primary/Junior (PEH)

About Dual Degree - Bachelor of Fine Arts & Bachelor of Education - Primary/Junior (PEH)
Students will first complete their Bachelor of Fine Arts. Once complete they will move into the two years of their Bachelor of Education.
Most drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography/digital media, art history, and film classes take place at Monastery Hall or the Jane Street Studio, and both are just a short walk or commute from the main campus and residences. Students will find their creativity level and imagination fully fueled by the natural scenery, full bounty of wildlife, 20 kilometers of on campus walking rails with waterfall and ponds, and colour that rivals any paint palette – especially in the Fall!
First- and second-year studio courses focus on technical instruction and
exposure to art of all forms, developing a strong practical foundation and exploring the vast range of materials and tools available. In third year, students will specialize in their areas of interest and explore opportunities for cross-disciplinary approaches to art-making. A year-end assessment delivers a professional critique, assists in identifying areas of strength, offers strategies to enhance skills, and prepares students for professional practice in the arts. The fourth year will be completed independently with the guidance of an advisor, and will culminate in a full body of work.
After completing their Bachelor of Fine Arts, students will begin Nipissing University's Bachelor of Education (BEd) program, which was one of the first pre-service teacher education programs to be fully accredited by the Ontario College of Teachers.
The BEd program is part of the Schulich School of Education and meets the requirements of the Ontario College of Teachers for teacher certification (Certificate of Qualification). It is open to applicants presenting proof of graduation with an approved undergraduate degree from an accredited university. The program provided by the Schulich School of Education is rigorous and demands a high degree of commitment. To be successful, a student must display sensitivity to pupils, a sense of responsibility to the teaching profession, and a respect for knowledge.
Candidates may apply to enroll in one of three divisions in the program:
P/J -- Primary/Junior (Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6)
J/I -- Junior/Intermediate (Grades 4 to 10)
I/S -- Intermediate/Senior (Grades 7 to 12)
Upon successful completion of all six years, students graduate with both a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree.
