About Master of Arts - Professional Translation
The MA in Professional Translation (MAPT) aims to develop individuals from proficient foreign language speakers into successful professional linguists. In 2009, the MAPT became one of only five UK-based founding members of the European Master’s in Translation Network, established by the Directorate-General for Translation (DGT) of the European Commission to enhance translator training standards. It was a moment of pride when MATI was accepted into the EMT in 2019 and both MA programs were EMT members until January 2021, when UK programs were excluded from the Network due to Brexit.
Within this program, students will engage in advanced translation work on various types of text, including general, administrative, and technical content, as well as receive training in industry-standard Computer-Assisted Translation tools. The curriculum offers opportunities for students to develop specialized skills in areas such as public service interpreting, audiovisual translation, machine translation, software localization, and terminology management.
Through the simulated translation bureau module, students will simulate working in translation companies by collaborating with local translation businesses and completing real commissions to professional standards.
