About Year One Foundation Program - Transfer to Bachelor of Science - Environmental and Conservation Sciences - Land Reclamation (Optional Co-op)

Why study this program?
Accommodating our growing human population has negatively impacted the environment, but with the help of land reclamation experts, we can secure the livelihood of future generations. Land reclamation is an interdisciplinary science that converts damaged and disturbed land to its former or other productive uses, and it’s in high demand.

This program teaches students how to assess, mitigate, and minimize the impacts of activities such as industrial development and resource extraction, and how to restore impacted ecosystems. Students will gain the knowledge and practical skills to conduct contaminant remediation, soil reclamation, and revegetation, as well as environmental assessment and land-use planning.

Students interested in diving deeper can participate in the Land Reclamation International Graduate School (LRIGS), an interdisciplinary hub of students and researchers dedicated to reclaiming disturbed lands around the world.

Why study Environmental and Conservation Sciences at the University of Alberta?
The BSc in Environmental and Conservation Sciences degree in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences gives students the opportunity to study and develop real-world solutions for environmental issues such as land degradation, water pollution, biodiversity, and adaptation to climate change. Students will also have the chance to participate in a 10-day field school as well as a project-based capstone course.
