About Master of Science - Organizational Psychology

Program Description

The Organizational Psychology program aims to address critical leadership skills required to enhance organizational effectiveness. Today’s leaders and managers need to know how to promote teamwork, manage transitions, and restructure organizations. The program provides students with a theoretical framework in organizational behavior and the opportunity to improve their own skills in research design, data collection and analysis, communication, facilitation, and interpersonal, group, and organizational issues. The integration of theory and practice prepares graduates to lead, manage, and/or consult with dynamic and diverse organizations operating in a global environment.

By taking courses in the Department of Psychology, School of Communication, and Barney School of Business, students develop unique analytical skills and accumulate knowledge from the differing perspectives of these schools of thought. The variety of electives offered, including courses in Education and Nursing, also enables students to tailor their graduate experience to their individual and professional needs. The program is designed to meet the needs of various types of students by providing: 1) a strong foundation for students who intend to continue on for further graduate work in any area of psychology, 2) solid training and internship opportunities for students who wish to obtain a terminal master’s degree and apply their acquired skills in various work settings, and 3) an opportunity for non-psychologist professionals who wish to become more knowledgeable about the application of psychology to their professional interests.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will become proficient in using the scientific method to critically review social science research literature.
  • Students will successfully integrate theory and practice as applied to the organizational science in the workplace.
  • Students will accumulate knowledge from different scientific disciplines.
  • Students will develop in-depth knowledge in at least one current topic in organizational psychology, including, but not limited to work motivation, emotional intelligence, diversity in the workplace, and creativity in organizations.
  • Students will know and understand the scope and methods of organizational psychology and its practical application in the workplace.
  • Students' writing will meet high-quality academic standards of presentation, organization, documentation, analysis, and substance.

Students should be advised that this is the Direct Admission option for this program and as such does not offer conditional admission.
