The International Foundation Year in Engineering, Computing & Science will prepare you to study one of more than fifty degrees at the University of Huddersfield, in fields such as computer science, most engineering disciplines, forensic science, music technology and pharmaceutical science.
You will study core modules, which are general skills subjects, and specialised modules tailored to your chosen area of study, all of which are important for your academic development.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) powers innovations everywhere, from virtual assistant technology to self-driving cars. You may have heard of the ‘fourth industrial revolution’, AI is a fundamental technology that enables systems to transform our everyday lives.
Our course is designed, therefore, to equip you with the necessary skills to position yourself at the forefront of this technological revolution.
In your first year, you’ll follow a core computing programme to give you a broad understanding of the subject, developing skills in programming and mathematics. From your second year onwards, you’ll take several specialist AI modules, covering symbolic, sub-symbolic and statistical AI and their applications in natural language processing, speech, and image recognition. You also have the option to secure an industry placement in your third year.
