About Master of Science - Accounting

The University of La Verne’s Master of Science in Accounting program prepares students with one of the most sought-after advanced degrees in the business sector. The curriculum helps prepare those who wish to sit for the Certified Public Accountant exam and meet some of the requirements for the Certified Public Accountant licensure.

Students in the MS in Accounting program graduate with valuable skills and knowledge they can immediately apply to real-world problems and career opportunities, including how to:

  • Translate accounting theory to real-world applications;
  • Apply accounting knowledge, standards, rules, and regulations to business needs;
  • Think critically to solve accounting and business problems;
  • Communicate effectively and write financial and business documents;
  • Research accounting and business problems; and
  • Employ ethical and responsible decision making and standards in accounting.
The MS in Accounting requires completion of eight core courses and two electives for a total of 10 courses (30 units). Some students may be required to complete foundation courses—the program director will review each applicant’s undergraduate coursework and professional experience to determine if foundation courses are necessary.

The program takes just two years—or six 8-week sessions—to complete and can be taken on a part- or full-time schedule. Classes are taught year-round and there are five start terms per year. Evening courses are available.
