About 3.5-Term Pathway - Undergraduate Foundation Program - Humanities and Social Sciences - Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Philosophy and Politics
At ONCAMPUS Reading, students are provided with the opportunity to prepare for degree study and are assured progression to a variety of undergraduate degrees at the University of Reading. This program is specially tailored for international students who have finished their senior secondary education, with the goal of assisting them in gaining entry into undergraduate studies at the University of Reading. Upon successful completion of the University Foundation Program with the required level of achievement in all academic areas and the necessary English language score, students will automatically move on to an undergraduate program at the University of Reading. The University Foundation Program is set at NQF level 3, which is equivalent to A level standard in the United Kingdom.
Most programs last for one academic year, divided into three terms consisting of seven to eight teaching weeks and one examination week. On average, students will participate in 21 (and up to 25) hours of classroom-based study per week.
BA Philosophy and Politics degree
Studying philosophy at the University of Reading equips students with the ability to think logically, evaluate arguments critically, and challenge their own ideas and those of others. An understanding of the central principles, concepts, problems, texts, and figures of philosophy is provided. Leading experts, whose research strengths lie especially in moral philosophy and the philosophy of the mind and language, teach the courses.
The first year introduces students to the general skills required for all philosophy. In the second and final years, they have the opportunity to explore their chosen subjects in more depth, with modules such as Contemporary Political Philosophy, Philosophy of Crime and Punishment, and the History of Political Philosophy. There is also a chance to examine non-Western philosophies, such as Indian philosophy.
