About Graduate Foundation Program - Chemical Engineering (continuing on Pullman campus after progression) (Non-Thesis)
The Graduate Foundation Program provides an avenue to earning a master's degree with added academic support. The program will help build the academic foundation and essential English language and research skills students need to successfully progress to their master's degree.
Grades of B or higher in IM coursework guarantee entry to a student's respective graduate degree program. The major of choice for the IM will remain the same for the admission into the graduate degree program.
Through IM, students can expect:
- Face-to-face instruction on the WSU Pullman campus
- Faculty office hours and conferencing with teachers scheduled at convenient hours
- Advising from Sharon Fraser-Allen, IALC faculty in Daggy Hall
- Academic support from the Language Learning Resource Center in Thompson Hall
- Opportunities to practice language with other students and teachers
Program placement: whether students complete 1 or 2 semesters of the IM program depends on their grade point average (GPA) and English proficiency scores.
For each semester in the International Masters Program, international students will take supportive English courses through the Intensive American Language Center (IALC) and 6 credits at the 500 level toward their graduate degree major. IALC courses do not count toward the degree, but students who start in IM will still earn their master’s degree in the same amount of time as direct-entry Graduate students.
Since 2017, WSU has been welcoming students to International Master's Program in nearly 20 different disciplines. The programs include courses in Research and Critical Analysis courses in addition to the curriculum of the degree program. If admitted, the student’s I-20 will have an Education Level of "Other: Pathway Program" with Major 1 listed as "Second Language Learning" and Major 2 being the intended degree program. A student will receive an updated Graduate-level I-20 upon successful completion of the 1-2 semester International Master's program. For more information, please visit here.
