Students can study for a BSc in Sociology and Social Science, a timely, engaging, interdisciplinary course that equips them with invaluable knowledge and critical skills for the workplace and the journey toward a just and sustainable future.
The course is primarily shaped by sociology but also draws extensively on related disciplines, particularly criminology and politics. Other areas of study, including social policy, philosophy, and social psychology, will further broaden their knowledge. Students will be encouraged to combine analytical thinking with real-world research to address enduring questions about the so-called human condition, as well as the challenges faced by modern society. This experience will provide them with the analytical, digital, and critical skills needed in a changing world and workplace.
The distinctive degree explores the complex, shifting relationships between individuals and societies, focusing on topics such as crime, social and generational change, identity and community, inequality and exclusion, sustainability, justice and power, and work and well-being.
Furthermore, the Sociology and Social Science team at CCCU has a strong reputation for teaching that is informed by the latest research and the needs of the wider world, including workplaces. Students will be encouraged to develop the ability to apply social scientific knowledge and understanding to real-world issues. Their breadth of knowledge will be enhanced through guest lectures, live briefs, and research reports. Additionally, work shadowing, volunteering, and reflexive writing will improve their job prospects.
