About Master of Arts - Special Educational Needs and Inclusion - Extended

An Extended Master's helps international students get familiar with Master's study through a preparation phase in the summer before the main course starts. Gain an in-depth understanding of special educational needs and inclusion with a Master’s degree that explores this area across the entire lifespan. With the growing need for professionals in this area, an MA in Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Inclusion will enable students to enter a career across multiple sectors. Those who are looking to support those with SEN and advocate for a more inclusive society, then this Master’s degree will give students the knowledge and understanding to effectively do so.

This course is designed to support rigorous and critical development through the exploration of theory, practice, and policy. Students will engage with both established and emerging theory, that will allow them to critically examine, which will enhance their professional development and organisational improvement. What’s more, students will study local, national, and international perspectives, which often bears complex and unpredictable circumstances. Through this MA, students will gain the essential skills to analyse concepts that will ultimately help towards the fight for inclusivity for those with SEN. After the successful completion of the course, students may wish to continue onto a doctorate in this area. Past students have gone into career areas such as SENCO/Inclusion Management, outdoor learning, health, social care, criminal justice, voluntary sector, and businesses providing specialist special educational needs services.
