About Graduate Certificate Bundle - Graduate Certificate - Urban Design (PURBN) + Public Relations – Corporate Communications (PPRCC)
Urban Design Program
Cities need designers who understand the built environment. This eight-month graduate certificate responds to that demand, teaching students to design inclusive and sustainable solutions that connect and integrate urban landscapes. Sheridan is one of the few colleges in Canada to offer this niche training, which is traditionally taught in master's level studies.
The state-of-the-art Hazel McCallion Campus is a living lab for urban designers, surrounded by new development in the heart of Mississauga. Be inspired by the blank canvas of opportunity around students or make the short trip to Toronto to generate more ideas. Students will also have the chance to propose real-world solutions during a field placement with an urban design firm or industry partner.
Sheridan is well-known as a leader in design education. Learn from professors who have strong academic backgrounds and extensive industry experience in built environments. They'll teach students how to apply software skills to create visualizations of urban environments. Students will also study concepts of mobility, wayfinding, placemaking, ecology and more.
Public Relations - Corporate Communications Program
Can corporate communications be considered an art form? That's how Sheridan approaches the subject. It's a unique approach among business communications programs, and it produces student work that stands out. The courses in this program feature hands-on, project-based assignments. Students will be working for real-world clients, not just doing classroom exercises.
It takes less than a year to earn a Public Relations – Corporate Communications graduate certificate from Sheridan. Students will build a portfolio, get real-world experience and master both practical and theoretical aspects of business communications. Students will spend the last five weeks of the program in an onsite job placement, working with professionals.
In this program, students will learn to:
- Apply the critical, analytical and strategic skills prized by employers in corporate communications and public relations.
- Weave social media and diversity communications into all aspects of tactical delivery.
- Earn an audience's attention, influence attitudes and motivate behaviour.
- Produce internal corporate communications plans and activities — the fastest-growing segment of the industry.
- Prepare strategic plans, crisis responses, media campaigns, fundraising initiatives and other planning documents.
- Develop strategic communication campaigns that integrate all of the above elements.
